Welcome from the Head
Croeso. Welcome to Pencoed 6th Form. Our 6th Form Centre forms part of our thriving 11-18 school. We have an excellent track record with all students who join us in Year 12.
At Pencoed we pride ourselves in our ground-breaking approaches to wellbeing in the 6th Form, alongside improvements in our A level and AS results over recent years. We have acquired an excellent reputation for our work in this area, and were ranked the 12th best state school in Wales, according to the Sunday Times Parent Power Survey for 2022.
We have worked hard to deliver a range of successful courses in the 6th Form, and our committed team of Curriculum Leaders ensure that our 6th Form learners are supported by high quality teaching and learning. We also offer a number of successful courses in partnership with Bridgend College, many of which can be accessed during the school day, or though twilight sessions.
All students at Pencoed 6th Form Centre follow the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate. This qualification plays a key role in our 6th Form provision.
Learners are provided guidance through the process of applying to universities, for FE and HE courses, as well as apprenticeships. Our students have an outstanding success rate including to Russell Group Universities. We have an exceptional track-record in ensuring that students secure places on university summer schools, and are able to access work experience opportunities.
The dedicated team of Wellbeing Coaches in the 6th Form ensure that learners are supported throughout their time with us. All students that attend Pencoed 6th Form Centre are able to loan a Chromebook for the duration of their studies, and have access to a 6th Form Engagement Officer who is able to provide advice and guidance with attendance and Education Maintenance Grants.
There are also ample opportunities to participate in sport and a range of enrichment activities, including supporting younger learners in the school.

Facilities
Learners at Pencoed 6th Form Centre benefit from a number of dedicated facilities.
The 6th Form Centre itself is exclusively for the use of Year 12 and 13 learners. A secured fob entry system ensures that the common rooms, quiet study rooms, and computer suite are an ideal environment for learners to continue their studies during their free periods. 6th form learners also have access to their own kitchen within the block.
Each curriculum area has their own block, and specialist facilities; these include science labs, metal and woodwork rooms, hi-spec IT rooms, and the astroturf.
Independent study is crucial to learners’ success as they progress through their AS and A Levels. To support this, all learners are able to loan a Chromebook from the school, which connects them directly to their Hwb account. These can be used in class and at home.
In addition, wifi specifically for learners is available throughout the school site, enabling those who wish to use their own devices to do so. We do ask that 6th formers restrict mobile phone use to the 6th Form Centre only, as mobile phones are banned across the rest of the school site.

Uniform
School uniform will be an expectation at all times and is non-negotiable at Pencoed 6th Form, as it contributes to the ethos of the school. Cooperation from parents/carers is essential in ensuring that the appearance of pupils is of a consistently high standard.
Please note that shops will often place products in the ‘uniform’ section, which do not meet the criteria for our school uniform, as stated below:
- Black trousers, tailored shorts or knee length black skirts – tight, short lycra skirts are not allowed. Jeans, leggings, jeggings, tracksuit bottoms, sports shorts, gym shorts or cropped trousers are also prohibited.
- White shirt
- Grey V-neck jumper with Pencoed 6th Form logo – no round neck jumpers or hoodies allowed.
- Warm, waterproof/water-resistant outer coat – no hoodies (with or without zips) or tracksuit tops.
- Black leather school shoes – no suede or fabric shoes. Following pupil consultation, plain black leather trainer ‘style’ shoes are now permitted.
Learners will be presented by the school with their 6th Form tie during the first week of term. Pencoed 6th Form jumpers can be purchased from Uniform2Go.
We ask that make-up is kept to a minimum; no heavy eyeliner, mascara or foundation; no dark lip colours or lip liners; no false nails.
On health and safety grounds we do not allow pupils to wear any loose jewellery in our school. The exceptions to this rule are a wristwatch and one pair of small, round stud earrings – NO TUNNELS OR SPIKED GAUGES. We ask the pupils to remove jewellery during PE and games, to prevent them from causing injury. PLEASE NOTE, NO FACIAL JEWELLERY SUCH AS NOSE, LIP, TONGUE OR EYEBROW PIERCINGS ARE PERMITTED.
The school does not permit pupils to have ‘extreme’ haircuts and unnatural hair colours (e.g. Blue, green, pink hair colour, tramlines etc.).
