University of Reading – Subject Tasters

The University of Reading are offering a series of subject taster sessions for a variety of undergraduate courses, from Meteorology to English Language. These sessions are offered in person or virtually, and there is a travel bursary available, for those who are eligible.

Dentistry – Simulated Work Experience Day

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board are running a simulated work experience day on 8th July 2025, for those learners interested in a career in dentistry. The day is designed to give learners a hands-on introduction to the specialism, with a chance to learn from real professionals.

The Medical Education Centre of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, are hosting series of free webinar taster sessions for learners considering a career in the medical field. These cover a range of specialties, as well as sessions focusing on UCAT and MMI preparation.

Get Into Medicine Conference

A free, virtual conference which provides a comprehensive overview of the application process for medical based university courses, including information about:

  • Tactically choosing universities;
  • Personal statements;
  • UCAT entrance exam;
  • Medical school interview skills;
  • Medical leadership programmes;
  • Awards programmes;
  • Extracurricular activities;
  • Work experience;
  • Reapplication into medicine;
  • Applying for scholarships

The virtual conference takes place Sunday 22nd June, 9.30am-3.30pm, and learners are invited to attend with a parent/carer. To register, click here

King’s College London Medicine and Dentistry Lecture Series

A free programme of lectures for Year 12 and 13 learners interested in pursuing further study and a career in dentistry or medicine.

As well as learning about the opportunites and challenges of both professions, leanrers will receive help and guidance on the application process. Lectures are delivered by a series of guest speakers from a variety of specialties within medicine and dentistry, and will run on Zoom throughout 2025, on a Tuesday evening for, 6.00-7.15pm.

STEM SMART – University of Cambridge

STEM SMART (Subject Mastery and Attainment Raising Tuition) is a widening participation initiative from the University of Cambridge in association with Isaac Physics, to provide free, complementary teaching and support students who attend a UK maintained school (non-fee paying school) and:

  • have either experienced educational disadvantage or belong to a group that is statistically less likely to progress to higher education and
  • are considering applying to Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences (eg physics, chemistry, earth sciences, materials science) or Biological Sciences (eg plant sciences, pharmacology, physiology, evolution and behaviour, biochemistry) courses at university and are studying A Levels (or equivalent) in maths and science.

STEM SMART is a free, 17-month programme* to support students in raising their attainment at school and develop their confidence to apply to study physical or biological sciences, engineering or computer science at top universities. The programme starts in the January of Year 12, and learners will benefit from a Cambridge student mentor, live subject-focussed talks, a residential trip to Cambridge, and support for university applications.

In2MedSchool Acceleration Programme (IAP)

We are excited to announce that we will be working with the In2MedSchool Acceleration Programme (IAP) this year, to help support the aspiring doctors in our sixth form. Our students will work with the students and doctors from IAP to develop their medical knowledge and improve their chances of obtaining a place at medical school. IAP also offer support to learners to put together applications for local funding, to assist their further study.
