Year 12 Summer Term Arrangements

As I am sure that you will be aware, our Sixth Form Centre focus now moves to the external WJEC A level examinations which begin on Monday 13th May.

Learners should have received a personalised report detailing their examination times and dates. They will also receive information shortly, regarding any clashes and seating arrangements, and the procedures put in place. This has been provided as both a printed and emailed form.

The final AS examinations are scheduled for Monday 3rd June, but please note that students should be available until Thursday 6th June as this is the final AS contingency day as identified by the WJEC.

Year 12 study leave will therefore begin on Friday 10th May and, from this date, learners will only be expected to attend school for their examinations, unless study sessions are agreed and arranged with their subject tutors.

All Year 12 lkearners will be expected to return to school on Monday 10th June, as we begin preparations for UCAS, work experience, apprenticeships, the world of work and timetabled lessons to commence delivery of Year 13 A level courses.

Please note that all learners will remain enrolled on all courses until their AS exam results are known and are not to take holidays in this critical transition period. If a learner does not wish to return to Year 13 then they will be required to complete a Leavers Form on or after results day to indicate their intended destination and to provide us with useful feedback on their experiences at Pencoed Sixth Form Centre.

Our focus for the summer term will be:

  • Week commencing 10th June – timetabled lessons, Welsh Baccalaureate and ‘future destinations’ planning. There will also be a parent support evening focusing on university applications on Wednesday 12th June at 5pm.
  • Week commencing 17th June – timetabled lessons
  • Week commencing 24th June – timetabled lessons
  • Week commencing 1st July – INSET 1st and 2nd and timetabled lessons
  • Week commencing 8th July – not expected to attend school as focus is careers and ‘experience a work place’
  • Week commencing 15th July – not expected to attend school as focus is careers and ‘experience a work place’

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all learners the best of luck for the summer examinations and look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 10th June. We request your support to ensure that they fully engage with staff over the summer term in this very important transition period from Year 12 to Year 13.

Students will be able to collect their AS level results on Thursday 15th August, from 9.30am in the annexe at the front of the school.
