Parent and Carer FAQs

UCAS application process

If your child is considering university after completing their 6th Form studies, you will find the information below useful in supporting your child through the UCAS application process:

Supporting learners through exam stress

We understand that this time of year can bring about a number of stressors for learners, with exams, coursework deadlines, and the prospect of moving on from school for Years 13. Below are some resources to help you support your child:

Keeping in touch

Even though our Year 12 and 13 learners are becoming more independent, we understand that parents and carers still want to be kept in the loop! There are a number of ways you can stay up-to-date with your child’s progress, and any activities or important dates.
We often email or text short, general messages to parents and carers, so it is important we have your current contact details on record. You can check this information via the SIMS Parent App (see below), or contact the school here.
SIMS PARENT APP
Learner progress reports, and individual communications are sent via the SIMS Parent App. This can be downloaded for Android or Apple devices. The app will also let you see your child’s timetable, and attendance.

Payments

Pencoed 6th Form operates a ‘cashless’ system, with payments for school dinners, trips, activities, equipment etc made electronically via ParentPay. ParentPay is a secure website, where you can make payments either by direct bank transfer, or by card.
If your child has previously attended Pencoed Comprehensive, your account will rollover as they join the 6th form. If you child has joined us from anouther school, please contact admin@pencoedcs.bridgend.cymru, and we will send you the information you need to create an account.
You can access the ParentPay website here. Please note, the school does not have the ability to find or reset your password – you will need to follow the link on the ParentPay site to do this.

Attendance

At Pencoed 6th Form Centre, we believe learners should attend school fully and punctually at all times, so as to get the maximum benefits from their education.
We have to account for the absence of all learners from school. We ask all parents/carers to contact the school by telephone (01656 867104) or email Pencoed6th@pencoedcs.bridgend.cymru on the first, and any subsequent day, of a leaners illness to explain their absence. Unless we receive this information, we have to assume that it is an unauthorised absence, and this will affect leaners claiming EMA.
We understand the need for our 6th Form learners to have more independence, and as such, there are instances where they are permitted to sign in and out of school. If learners have a timetabled lesson 1 and/or 2, they are expected to attend registration. If their first lesson of the day is not until after break, they MUST sign in at the 6th Form Centre, as soon as they arrive at school.
Learners are also permitted to leave site during their free periods, lunch and break time, or once their lessons are finished for the day. However, it is essential learners ALWAYS sign in and out in the 6th Form Centre, to adhere to Health and Safety requirements. We expect learners to be mature enough to manage their own time, and ensure they return promptly for lessons.
There are a number of instances throughout the academic year, where it is mandatory for all 6th form learners to attend certain registration sessions. Reminders will be sent via text and email prior to these sessions, and they are also clearly marked on the calendar (see below).
