In our ‘Spotlight on a Subject’ series, learners past and present reflect on their experiences studying different subjects at Pencoed 6th Form Centre. Here, John Chapman, from the Class of 2024, looks back on his time studying Photography.
Learning photography is an incredible journey, allowing people’s passion for the subject to grow, while also expanding their skills of photography further. This includes editing photographs using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, allowing people to make meaningful images they are proud of.
In photography you will learn different techniques in order to improve your shots before editing them – such as in camera settings like changing aperture and shutter speed, as well as using different lighting set ups.
One thing I really love about the Photography course is that I can focus and create shoots surrounding places and things that inspire and interest me, allowing me to feel more excited about the subject as a whole. Visiting Cardiff’s National Museum has also allowed me to see others’ art and photography, giving me inspiration and knowledge.
Both Mrs Davies and Mr Clark have helped me greatly, creating an environment where I can thrive, by assisting me in developing my ideas, completing my photographs and helping me with whatever issues I have had along the way.
Overall, Photography has given me so much, allowing me to create artwork that I’m proud of.
